FIELD NOTE · SUPPLEMENTAL SET
Largest videoboard ever built for sports: the Inglewood work is two rings out
ISSUEDJULY 11, 2026DRAWN BY THE NIGHTLY SWEEP
Samsung's number for the Infinity Screen at SoFi Stadium is 70,000 square feet, nearly 80 million pixels, 122 feet above the field. The superlative is scoped: largest videoboard ever built for professional sports, first 4K end-to-end video production in a stadium. Which is a real claim, carefully bounded. It's also not your job, and it never will be.
The center of a district like this never reaches a regional bid list. It goes to Samsung, to Daktronics, to the venue's own AV and IT group, and it arrives with a production plant and the staff hired to run it. So the useful question isn't how a local shop gets in there. It's what a building that size pulls in around itself, and how far out the pull reaches.
Hollywood Park sits on 298 acres of former racetrack, and the AV in the middle of it already belongs to the people who run the buildings. The rest of the parcel is tenant improvement work nobody has specified yet.
The Intuit Dome opened August 15, 2024, cost about $2 billion, and Steve Ballmer paid for it privately. Its Halo Board is a double-sided display of roughly 38,375 square feet, carrying more than 233 million LEDs at about a 3.9 millimeter pitch. The inner ring runs 32 feet tall around a 623-foot circumference, the outer 28 feet around 661.
Daktronics booked that board in the fiscal year the company first crossed $800 million in orders, the biggest order year in its history. Which tells you who wired it.
Cosm opened at Hollywood Park on June 29, 2024, three stories and 65,000 square feet, adjacent to both SoFi and the Intuit Dome. Inside it, an 87-foot 8K LED dome for about 1,700 people.
Those three head ends belong to national vendors and to the permanent AV and IT staff the venues hired to keep them up, which is the right arrangement for buildings that run their own video production plant. A regional sales manager who builds a year of pipeline around one of them is chasing work that was never on the market, against a vendor list he was never on.

Fine, until a shop staffs up against a five-million-square-foot number.
What's already open is enough to work with. SoFi, the 6,000-seat YouTube Theater, NFL Media's headquarters and American Airlines Plaza are built and running, on a parcel entitled for several million square feet more, which means the district keeps filing for years whether or not the ceiling numbers ever get built.
So a master plan isn't a forecast. It's a list of parcels that will file separately, each on its own schedule, each with an architect and a general contractor who set the low voltage scope before the tenant has an opinion. Inglewood's own construction record is where those show up, one at a time.
The people who read all of this as marketing were being reasonable, right up until two of the venues opened forty-seven days apart.
Hotel work is where the money and the liability separate. Meeting rooms and ballrooms want display, distributed audio, a control plate somebody untrained can operate, and one head end location a service tech can physically reach without a lift, a ladder and a two-hour room block on the house calendar. Fire alarm and voice evacuation carry their own submittal, their own permit and their own inspection, and they are the part of the halo scope where nothing gets improvised.
Up to 2,500 residences on the same parcel is a different scope again. Multifamily means intercom and access control at every entry, and one fire alarm system with a single owner and, at full build, up to 2,500 units under it. That's a service agreement more than an install.
Office tenant improvements bring access control, camera, structured cabling, and a network handoff to somebody else's IT department, which is where most of these jobs stall. Never your department, and never on a punch list.
None of that is the Halo Board. All of it is real work with a service agreement behind it, and it repeats every time a tenant changes.

The event slate is the other half of it. SoFi hosted eight 2026 World Cup matches this summer, and takes Super Bowl LXI in February 2027. In 2028 it shares the Olympic Opening Ceremony with the Coliseum on July 14, then runs Olympic swimming, billed as the largest swim venue in Olympic history.
The transit that was supposed to carry all of that did not survive. Inglewood approved an automated people mover in 2022. By the time the city paused and rephased it in April 2025 for lack of funding, the price had reached $2.4 billion. What Inglewood is building instead is dedicated bus and bike lanes plus commercial facade improvements ahead of 2028, backed by about $149.5 million in state TIRCP funds the city accepted in October 2025.
Commercial facade improvements is the line worth noticing. That's a corridor a city is spending money to make presentable on an Olympic deadline, which is a schedule somebody else is enforcing, and a deadline enforced by somebody else is the only kind a small shop can safely plan against.
The rest is ordinary. Design the room so nobody has to tape an instruction sheet next to the panel. Put the head end where a tech can stand. Write the punch list the tenant will actually hold you to.
Super Bowl LXI is February 2027, and the Opening Ceremony is July 14, 2028. The screens over both of them are somebody else's account. The ring around those buildings is not spoken for at all, and it files one parcel at a time, in public, between now and then.

Three buildings nobody local is wiring
SoFi opened in the summer of 2020, seats about 70,000, and carries both the Rams and the Chargers. The Infinity Screen above the bowl is a center-hung oval that shows to the seats on its inner and outer faces at once, and it weighs an estimated 2.2 million pounds. The figure repeats identically everywhere and nobody says who weighed it.The Intuit Dome opened August 15, 2024, cost about $2 billion, and Steve Ballmer paid for it privately. Up to is a developer's word
Hollywood Park is programmed for up to 890,000 square feet of retail, up to 5 million square feet of creative office, up to 2,500 residences, a 300-room hotel and 25 acres of parks and open space. Read the phrase again. Up to is an entitlement ceiling, and those figures come out of the developer's own materials rather than a built inventory. A 300-room hotel being entitled is not a 300-room hotel taking reservations, and low voltage scope follows occupancy.Fine, until a shop staffs up against a five-million-square-foot number.

What the second ring actually orders
Restaurant and bar audio in a district like this is a coverage and intelligibility problem before it's a gear problem, because the room commissioned empty at two in the afternoon is not the room that exists at kickoff. Occupied condition moves the noise floor further than most drawings assume, and gain structure set in a quiet room goes to feedback or to mush in a full one. Design for the full room. The empty one takes care of itself.Hotel work is where the money and the liability separate. The calendar is the account
Add up the seats in Inglewood. SoFi holds about 70,000, the Intuit Dome 18,300, the Kia Forum 17,500, the YouTube Theater 6,000 and Cosm about 1,700, all of them venue-reported capacities rather than attendance. (The screen at SoFi is 70,000 square feet and the bowl under it seats roughly the same number, which is a coincidence, and a useful one.) Ballmer bought the Forum outright in 2020 for $400 million cash and it took the Kia name in 2022.SEATS IN ONE CITY (VENUE-REPORTED CAPACITIES) SOFI STADIUM 70,000 INTUIT DOME 18,300 KIA FORUM 17,500 YOUTUBE THEATER 6,000 COSM 1,700

Where you'd have to be standing
AV scope in a tenant improvement gets set at design stage by the architect and the GC, months before anybody orders a display, and it usually gets copied from the last set that worked. Getting in front of that is the whole game in an adjacency market, which is the case for reading the filings instead of the trade press. PermitFeed scores commercial and tenant-improvement filings for the low voltage trades across Inglewood and the rest of Southern California. The rest is ordinary.
